Skilled Capital midyear release and updated compliance guide

The Skilled Capital Qualification List - August 2018 (XLSX 1KB) or (PDF 207KB) and Skilled Capital Skill Set list - August 2018 (XLSX 3.38MB) or (PDF 401KB) and a new version of the ACT Standards Compliance Guide for Skilled Capital - Version 2.4 (PDF 1.55MB) are now available.

Midyear Release

The 2018 Skilled Capital midyear release includes 575 places across 18 new qualifications and 800 places added to the remaining cap for 16 qualifications which were part of the original February 2018 release. The release also includes 100 places for two new Skill Sets. 

This midyear release will open for enrolments from 9:30am on 1 August 2018. Enrolments in qualifications and in Skill Sets in this release will be guaranteed until 5:00pm on Friday 3 August 2018. The caps will then come into effect at 5:00pm on this date and further enrolments may be restricted.

The new qualifications and Skill Sets in this release will be available on AVETARS for registered training organisations to nominate and input tuition fees from Friday 6 July 2018.

The qualifications and Skill Sets in this release and from the February 2018 release which have places remaining will remain open for enrolments until 21 December 2018 or until their caps are met.

ACT Standards Compliance Guide for Skilled Capital

The ACT Standards Compliance Guide for Skilled Capital - Version 2.4 (PDF 1.55MB) has been updated and is effective from 1 August 2018.

Program changes include:

  • variations to Skilled Capital eligibility for certificate II qualifications
  • updates to student and loading eligibility evidence requirements
  • provision for registered training organisations to apply for additional Skilled Capital places in certificate II level qualifications for priority groups*.

*Additional Skilled Capital Places for Priority Groups

Skills Canberra is adding a provision for registered training organisations to apply for additional places for priority groups in the ACT for certificate II level Skilled Capital qualifications only. Priority groups include:

  • students who identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders
  • people with a disability
  • youth at risk
  • long term unemployed
  • new migrants
  • refugees and asylum seekers
  • mature workers over the age of 45
  • women seeking to enter a trade.

Registered training organisations must apply in writing by completing an Application for Additional Skilled Capital Places for Priority Groups (DOCX 99KB). If approved, the additional release of places will be kept exclusively for the applicant registered training organisation. This additional release of places is non-contestable.

This provision is effective immediately. Each application will be assessed on a case by case basis, with approval or rejection advised in writing within 7 days applying.
